The kitchen sink in this picture has been set into a butcher block countertop.  Often, butcher block is used in a classic vintage design kitchen.  The level countertop has a squared-off edge, and the same butcher block material has been used for the backsplash.  The brass faucet adds a shiny touch near the dark lines of the smooth wood countertop.
